A few days back, I went to a restaurant with my family. For some reason I was not in a very good mood but anyways. When the doorman opened the door for us, I looked up at him and said 'thank you' and he smiled back. It didn't hurt me to say a thank you to him but his smile surely had an impact on me. A smile automatically appeared on my face and my mood was suddenly much better.
It is a common belief that 'in friendship, there is no sorry and no thank you.' I know it sounds really nice and makes you believe that you are close to the other person if you don't have to go through these formalities of gratitude and apologies but to be very frank, I don't believe so.
I know you are wondering why I am saying this but just try to think about it from my perspective. What if instead of considering these two as conventionalities why not we think of them as a means to express our affection for our friends' helpfulness and acceptance of our misconduct. I personally feel that doing this is actually what can bring us close to someone's heart.
Some of you would say that using these words or giving someone a smile are a part of our basic courtesies so why think about them so much but come on guys, you have to accept it- these days saying Thank You has become an extremely rare occurrence and asking for an an apology an even rarer one because of course the Big Old Ego comes in the way.
Friends, it shouldn't matter if the action is big or small or whether the other person is a friend or a stranger. It is not easy to make someone smile and if your saying a single word can do that, I really feel it's worth the effort because in this beautiful journey of life, we may meet a million people but not many will be remembered or will remember us and if someone does remember us, I sure as hell would want that memory to be a pleasant one.
I feel that it's time for introspection..and thank you
