The Art Of Gratitude

A few days back, I went to a restaurant with my family. For some reason I was not in a very good mood but anyways. When the doorman opened the door for us, I looked up at him and said 'thank you' and he smiled back. It didn't hurt me to say a thank you to him but his smile surely had an impact on me. A smile automatically appeared on my face and my mood was suddenly much better. It is a common belief that 'in friendship, there is no sorry and no thank you.' I know it sounds really nice and makes you believe that you are close to the other person if you don't have to go through these formalities of gratitude and apologies but to be very frank, I don't believe so. I know you are wondering why I am saying this but just try to think about it from my perspective. What if instead of considering these two as conventionalities why not we think of them as a means to express our affection for our friends' helpfulness and acceptance of our misconduct. I personal...
