It's None Of Your Business

Have you ever overheard a group of your friends or colleagues discussing your personal life behind your back? Or Has your relationship status ever been the measurement of the quality of your performance? Well, I'm sure quite a number of you must have experienced this. My question here is, does it feel right?

Every now and then, there are news all over the media regarding some celebrity linkups or breakups. Almost every single person likes to comment about other people's relationships. Rumours are spread, jokes are circulated and what not. Nobody wants to refrain from commenting on another person's private life.  What is astonishing to me is, just because a person is a public figure, how does it give you the authority to make an issue of their personal lives?

Recently, after winning a crucial match in T20 World Cup, thousands of people trolled Virat Kohli's ex-girlfriend Anushka Sharma for their breakup. The social media was full of jokes and cartoons stating that since the two had parted ways, there was a considerable boost in Virat's cricket performance. There was less of humour and more of insult in all that was going around. A notable moment in this situation was when Virat Kohli reminded the trolls how to respect another human being.

I completely fail to understand why do we need to make a joke about another individual's life. As everyone else, the celebrities are also entitled to a private space. We don't know what resulted in their split or patchup. We have no idea on who was at fault and who not. We are absolutely clueless about on what terms are they with each other. Then why, why do we have to gossip about them irrespective of whether it's a celebrity or not. Are we so bored of our own lives that we need to spice them up at the expense of someone else's privacy and emotions?

Protection or Prison

Under the guise of safety  We keep our doors closed Merely imagining the world beyond We accept to be forever entombed What we fail to recognize Is that we are our own prison Limiting our own powers We have given up our own freedom What started as protection Has now become a jail That which we are so afraid to break out of That which has become our excuse to fail   The reality is not what we believe Rather, we can actually take charge Change the direction our destiny takes And break free from the tower so large -Tamrina

Ten Years

There is an interesting thing we all like to do in our life and that is commemorate dates. Whether it is birthdays, anniversaries, he or she day we met someone for the first time but also, the day we lost someone dear to us. On the one end, the remembrance gives us joy and a chance to celebrate and on the other, they are an opportunity to think about that special person, often through teas and wonder, if things could have been different. As humans, it is our nature to assign meaning to things; whether it is the changing of seasons, that breaking of a glass or even, our own suffering. Why do we do that? It is to find some sense of order in this chaos of a world. Similarly, attaching that special meaning to some days gives us a break from the mundane. It allows us to take a breather from everyday routines and shuffle things up a little bit. I once read somewhere that grief is the love we feel for someone once they are gone and maybe this is why we remember them extra on particular da...

We Win Some, We Lose Some and We Snooze Some

A while back, a close friend had told me that my life would always be interesting because I have a passion and a dream to fulfil it, which translates to me always having something to fight for. This statement has stuck with me, especially in my low times because it is very true. When things get tough, I think about the destination I have set for myself and it gives me the strength to overcome the obstacles in my path. Something that I have come to realize very recently though is irrespective of the journey a person chooses to embark in life, there are many battles that each of us has to fight. And despite our best efforts, we win some, we lose some and we snooze some. Now the first two is pretty self-explanatory and the reality of life and circumstances but the third option is what I wish to share with you today. For some people, life is a constant uphill battle; it could be due to a social disadvantage, financial challenges, belonging to a marginalized group, intrapersonal struggles,...
