How would you feel if you get any of your bones fractured? What would be your first reaction when any of your near and dear ones get a major wound or fracture? Your answers would obviously be upset and concerned for your loved ones' well being, but strangely that's not how our society works.
A few months back, I got myself a couple of fractures on my ankle due to a fall from a kids' ride in the park. Sounds funny right! Well, I had to undergo a surgery, stayed in the hospital for a week and much to my unhappiness had to miss my exams. You might wonder why I'm writing all this but what I really want to do through this is give you a background idea for what I am about to say.
The thing is when you have got a fracture and are hospitalised, its nothing short of a trauma and some visitors are nothing but the icing on the cake. Generally those who come to visit you in such situations are those who really care for you but amongst them are also those who are there just for the heck of showing their fake concerns. Often it happens that these visitors give you a boost and the mental support you need but many a times they act in a way you can't help but feel disgusted and at the same time laugh at what they say.
These so called concerned visitors have difference in their way of sympathising which depends on your gender. Seriously man! What does sex have to do with it? Well, if the injured person is a male, they'll say, "Ladkon ko toh chot lagti rehti hai. Phir kya ho gaya." But if its a female, they go all the way to act as if it is the end of the world. They say, "Parayi ladki hai. Skin pe nishan reh jaayenge. Shaadi kaise hogi?. Ghar kaise sambhalegi?" I mean What The Hell!
For them the scars on a boy's/man's body are somehow a proof of his Mardaangi but the same scars if appear on a girl's body, they become Dhabba. These people are completely okay if their son beats his wife and gives her bruises and scars but they won't like it if their daughter-in-law has some stitch-marks on her arm or leg.
We live in a world with a fractured mindset where people boast about gender equality and equal opportunities but don't practice what they preach on such a tiny issue. The need of the hour is not the big issues but these small changes in people's mentality which have to be brought in order to establish an equal environment.
The topic that you tried touching is quite good! "Fractured bones or fractured mindset?"
